Jenn and I spent some time reminiscing this past 4th about how we felt as kids looking forward to the 4th of July. It was always one of the most exciting holidays of the year. It was an opportunity to hang out with family and friends and it all culminated in fireworks! We talked about how it seemed like time went much slower leading up to it as kids. It seems now we turn around and the day has snuck up on us.
This 4th, Jenn and I got to spend the entire day together because we both managed to have the day off. What a blessing! We started the day at the local 4th parade that goes through our neighborhood. It was true Americana. The parade has been going on for 50 years and is completely made up of the local community members. All you do is show up and get in line. We really enjoyed it.
After the parade, we went over to Jenn’s parents house and enjoyed a water volleyball tournament with my brother and sister in law and Jenn’s parents. Of course the girls beat the guys (even though they cheated). Team Gladney showed up in bandanas Jenn bought for us, we were very patriotic.
We finished the night off watching fireworks from the top of a parking garage. It was great because we got to see more than one show!
Spending the day celebrating the independence of our country with my wife reminded me of how wonderful this country is, but more importantly, how great our God is. We have many freedoms that we take for granted almost daily, including the freedom we have in Christ. I am grateful to the Lord for his blessings upon us and this nation and for the fun celebration of freedom.
