Something out of Nothing

The JGlads have built their bed!! It was quite an endeavor and, thanks to Don Gladney helping, the project went a lot smoother. As he said, “however long you expect your project to take, quadruple it and that’s how long it will take.” He was right. We were expecting a weekend project and it took us 6 days to finish. Each day was fun as well as exhausting in the 100+ degree weather but it was a blast full of memories. We could not believe how every part of our body was sore after our first weekend of building. It was almost embarrassing (considering even my fingers were sore from sanding). I learned so many new things and was able to spend some sweet time with my in-laws. Justin was able to learn how much I hate looking at and inspecting every single piece of wood in Lowes and Home Depot in order to find the best pieces. I about gave up on the project the first day after 4 hours were spent finding wood.

I learned that Justin is even more of a perfectionist than I realized because Justin could not stop sanding in efforts to make everything perfect. He measured and leveled every piece about three times!

As we built, we were reminded of how God creates. God designs us out of nothing and we are much more complex than furniture. We start as two cells which come together and create a complex, beautiful being, made in the image of God. He not only gives us life, but creates senses for us to enjoy and praise our Lord! How amazing is our creator!!!

“Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever;
he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds! Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children!”

-Psalm 148:5-12

PS Special thanks to the Gladneys for use of their garage, time and tools! We love you!

  1. Great story. I really like this blog and reading your insights. It’s encouraging. I might need some tips because I am planning on building an entertainment center after I settle into the new place.
