¡Pura Vida! ¡Vamos a la Playa!

Jenn and I just got back from a recent trip to Tambor, Costa Rica. It was a wonderful trip full of many memories.

When we left Dallas it was 16 degrees Fahrenheit. We landed in sunny Costa Rica to a slightly humid, but warm 94 degrees Fahrenheit. We climbed into a Toyota Fortrunner and started the trek to Tango Mar, our hotel. The trip was about three and a half hours by car and, frankly, was a beating. The roads in Costa Rica are ok if they are paved, but terrible if they aren’t. About 45 minutes of our car ride was over dirt roads going through the mountains. By the time we arrived at the hotel, all we wanted was some food, a shower and a good nights rest.

We awoke the next morning to find ourselves in paradise. Our room was huge and right on the beach. We fell asleep and woke to waves breaking against the beach every day. We would get up and make our way slowly to the open air restaurant to an all you can eat breakfast buffet complete with fresh, made to order, omelets and pancakes. The coffee in Costa Rica is some of the best I’ve ever had to date.

A few days we were able to take part in excursions from the resort. We went zip-lining through the canopy in the mountains above Montezuma Beach, a popular surfer bum destination. We were also able to go by boat to Tortuga Island and snorkel for a few hours. While on the Tortuga excursion we saw dolphins, whales and many different varieties of beautiful fish.

On days we didn’t go on an excursion, we headed to the beach with books in hand. The beach was nearly empty every day because the resort was so small. There was also plenty to see at the resort. We also had a waterfall about a 20 minute walk from the hotel which fell directly into the ocean (only one of 7 in the world). At the waterfall we saw Howler and Capuchin Monkeys and a Coati. Our favorite activity though, had to be the hammocks under the shade of the palm trees on the beach!

We are grateful to the Lord for such a relaxing trip where we were able to just bask in his glory and grace. We both had the opportunity to grow closer to one another and closer to Jesus while we were there, which was what our hope for the trip was. As the Costa Rican’s are fond of saying ¡Pura Vida! (Pure Life!).
